2017 List of Visa Free and Visa on Arrival Countries for a Philippine Passport Holder

The Journey of My Very Maroon Passport

With the emergence of low-cost carriers and backpacking, more and more Pinoys endeavor to explore the world more. Although the Philippine passport may not be the most powerful one – it is currently ranked 65 by Passport Index on their Global Passport Power Rank 2017 with 61 countries that can be visited visa free or can easily go to by obtaining a visa on arrival, I still rejoice on the fact that there are 61 I can choose from. Sure, it may not be Germany or Singapore who are currently tied at number 1 with 158 out of 193 visa waivers, but we’ll get there (hopefully). Maybe the Department of Foreign Affairs can study how Marshall Islands gained 35 new visa waivers in 2016? I don’t know. Anyhow, rather than gripe, hem and haw why I had to prove my worth (literally) so I can visit another country, I choose to be grateful that mine still allows me to wander provided I can meet a country’s requirement. But I digress, here is the list of countries that can be visited visa-free by a Philippine passport holder for 2017 based on Timatic (Travel Information Manual Automatic). Timatic is the the database containing cross border passenger documentation requirements used by airlines to determine whether a passenger can be carried, as well as by airlines and travel agents to provide the information to travelers at the time of booking.

While the countries above do not require Philippine passport holders to process the visa on their embassies here in the Philippines (if there are any), they will issue a visa upon arrival after filling out an application form and paying the fees. Some may require a return ticket or onward ticket and show of sufficient funds to cover the stay. Most countries require passport validity of 6 months on the time of travel. The number of days listed are the initial upon arrival. Some of the countries give an option to apply for longer stays.
